I have decided to replace the steering gear in my '88 2wd as the old one leaks and has a lot of free play. I found a gear that I salvaged from a truck some years ago with only 80,000 miles on it, and had it refurbished. I have no reference marks to go by when installing it so steering wheel alignment and Pitman arm alignment will be a crap shoot. My question is: Are there physical stops inside the gear that determine how many revolutions the input shaft will make in either direction before it comes to a stop, or will it just keep turning if the Pitman arm is not connected?
