Hello everyone,

So I finally got the timing set on my Ram 50. Has a weber in it now also and runs pretty good. It idles well, it revvs well. The only thing I cannot figure out is this engine tick I am getting which sounds like the valves. I've put in all new valve lash adjuster (Soaked in oil first and made sure all bubbles were out.)

List of other things I've done so far.
-new timing belts (literally took me 4 times to get the timing right...)
-new plugs
-set dist. timing
-new head gasket
-new exhaust gasket
-new valve cover gasket

I'm going to try the oil with diesel fuel to try and clean out the engine a bit more and see what that does for me. It runs okay for an old truck but the ticking is unbelievable.
Maybe the timing belt is still wrong and off a tooth!??? It ticked before doing all the work but it only sounded like it was from one cyl and would go away when the truck heated up.

Here is a vid of it running rn.

Any suggestions would help, thanks

My Dad's 1988 Ram 50 with the 2.6 had a ticking sound that turned out to be mild detonation off of idle - I ran a full bottle of redline synthetic fuel cleaner through it, and the noise went away. He couldn't hear the noise it made as he is hard of hearing, but it made quite a racket. I also ran Rislone with every oil change to keep the lifters quiet.

Hey, just wanted to clear the thread.

I ran automatic trans fluid through the engine on idle for 3 min. flushed oil and put in full synthetic.

no more tick and truck runs great :)
