Electric fan conversion. Cost and benefit.

Hi all. It's Yuta again. This posting is about electric fan conversion. I want to know the cost and benefit of doing it

So let's start with benefits.
To me the first benefit is better accessibility to belt and water pump. You won't need to take off the mechanical fan. But who is going to do it all day once the car is running right??

Second benefit is probably saving energy. But I thinking its hardly noticeable.

What are other benefits?

How much would it cost ?

Would it be worth it ?

benefits are more horsepower from not having a fan - clutch fans still create drag and don't always slip when not needed, especially after 30+ years; less weight on the water pump shaft; better cooling with a higher airflow fan when needed; cost depends on the fan and control kit you use - for decent parts, 100 - 150; it is definitely worth it - Geronimo has had an electric fan for 30+ years.

Should be able to do it for way cheaper. A 10" to 12" thermo fan off ebay, a sender switch, a relay and connector - all up for $50 or less.

If you don't have A/C, front mount it and you'll open up engine bay room. Got to be one of the best investments you can make. Works way better than the mechanical clutch fan. Add an override switch as an emergency bypass for those moments where it's getting unnaturally hot and your engine will be well protected :thumbup:

12" fan is on the small side for air flow in heavy traffic in the south of the USA. 16" with 1800+ cfm is what you want
