1993 Mighty Max flywheel compatibility

Hello all, I recently purchased a Mighty Max after wanting one for a very long time.

I got it for cheap, knowing there was quite a bit wrong with it, but it's a nostalgic vehicle for me and I don't mind fixing it.

Anyways, to the point, the clutch is in dire need of being replaced.

Since the truck has seen nothing but a lifetime of abuse from someone who did not know how to drive a manual transmission.

I want to go ahead and buy all the parts I need so I can just get in there and swap this clutch and get back on the road but I'm concerned about the condition of the flywheel.

I don't want to pull it all, find out the stock flywheel can't be resurfaced and then have the truck torn apart for weeks waiting on parts etc etc.

So, what, if any flywheels are compatible with this engine? The whole Mitsubishi engine codes confuses the hell out of me (I'm coming from Honda and our engine codes make way more sense ;p) but I know it's a 2.4, fuel injected engine. I don't know if it's wide or narrow, 6 bolt or 7 bolt, or whatever else.

I read somewhere that the DSM flywheel is compatible, but of course it didn't elaborate at all. Is the flywheel compatible? If it is, which specific year, car, etc? Do I need a mighty max clutch or a DSM clutch?

If anyone can help with this I'd be SUPER appreciative. Thanks!

Mitsu engine codes are kind of a pain, but not too bad once you learn them. See if this helps:

Are you trying to buy a used one that you can resurface ahead of time? It looks like they changed the part number starting with the 93 model year. It only interchanges with other 2.4L trucks and with the fairly rare 2.4L Montero Sport. The 1992 part is still specific to the truck.

Someone who's got hands on experience with this will need to chime in on the DSM flywheel. Going by part numbers alone, it won't work. Based on the ring gear, it looks like it might be a different diameter.

Unless you're on a super tight budget, I'd just buy a new one from some place like Rock Auto. Finding such a specific part, in decent used condition, for a relatively uncommon truck is going to be a giant pain.

The difference between a 6 Bolt and a 7 bolt is the number of bolts that hold the Flywheel to the crank... That said, they switched between 92 and 93.
