I have a streak of carbon on my driveway from it shooting out the back of this thing. It runs good and idles good but once I let it sit a week or more it is hard to start and a blast of carbon comes out. Tail pipe is black at the end and about 1/8 up the outside!
It is definitely running very rich. I hardly get 200 miles on a full tank.
Any ideas?

Is it jetted right and have you tried adjusting the air fuel mixture screw? Getting the correct jet sizes will make a quantum leap of difference with overall performance but you should be getting way better mpg with the Weber carb.

I think "jetted right" is a range. I don't remember exactly but the Weber Carb Help thread you and pennyman helped me in the jets weren't exactly as recommended. It seemed like they were ok if I recall correctly. I suspect I may need to get a new carb or have it factory refurbished.

when you changed the jets, did you check the float level setting? it sounds like either it is set too low, or it has a hole in it and it sinks when it sits for a while.

I didn't change the jets so much as put them in the right spots. The float is new and adjusted as instructed. I'm hoping the new air intake helps. I'll wait and see how the new intake affects it.

Are you running the mechanical fuel pump without a regulator, or an electric fuel pump? I don't remember if you said what you have.

Manual with regulator.
