Changing to solid lash adjusters???

I know this topic has been addressed on this site at least once, but I haven't been able to find the thread again.

I have 1993 truck with the 4g64 with 205000 miles on it. I think the lifters are going out, mystery oil fixed them once, but I changed the oil and the noise is back.

Has anyone got experience with switching to adjustable lifters? Or should I just shell out some cash for new hydraulic ones and hope that this fixes the problem.

I did read the haynes manual and I haven't yet tested them.

The lash adjuster is not that much. I think there like 14 bucks each or something like that. Rock Auto has them. If I was you I would just get new ones. If you pull the vale cover you can run the engine with out it and find the noisy one by putting your finger on the rocker and pushing down on them one at a time. Yes it's a mess. Or pull the valve cover bolts. Run the engine shut it off and then feel for the loose one.

there are no easy swapouts to manual adjustors for the 4g64 motors - new lifters are not that much.

I switched to manual adjusters on my race motor, yeah, not that much, they're actually from the 1.8L motor, and you also need to order the adjusters and the lock nuts. I posted the Mitsubishi P/N for these items probably here in the performance mods section.
Last I remember a user said Mitsubishi was out of them in the warehouse. Junkyard trip?

on my 92 mm i put a set of Manuel rocker arms on that came from a 1985 2.0. works fine. your valve train will be noisy after you do this but that's normal. just adjust them to spec and all should be fine. my oil pressure seems to be a little bit lower but not much. ive driven it 12,000 miles sense and have not had any problems.

can't these mitsu lifters not be disassembled, cleaned, reasssy & bleed ?

Yes they Can, the procedure is in the Haynes Manual in the 216 Manuals thread. I switched because the spring pressure i had collapsed the adjusters...Routinely reved past 7000 RPM, no valve float :-)

You can't pull them apart, but there is a procedure to clean them and re-oil them. One of the manuals on this site should list the procedure.
