if the neutral safety switch is going out it will is cause the od to shift in and out?

no that sounds like the temperature sensor in the intake by the carb is going bad, or the kickdown cable is out of adjustment.

something to look @ thxs for the info as for the temperature sensor in the intake by the carb it has a weber carb on it so i don't know if there is a temperature sensor in the intake. i,ll have to look around and see but you may be right on the kickdown cable is out of adjustment.

well looks like you was pennyman1 it was the kickdown cable adjustment the bolt had vibrated back and let the linkage slip up. sure am glad it wasn't as bad as i had first thought lol.
