A few days ago I traded away my mustang for an 89 ram 50. The person i traded with said it had a 2.4l in it, but after researching it I found that my year did not get the 2.4. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to identify the 2.0 from the 2.4 or 2.6

My Chiltons manual says you have either a 2.0 or 2.6....according to the manual the 2.4 came out the next year....1990....easiest way to tell the difference between 2.0 & 2.6 is the cylinder head....2.0 has paired port intake and exhaust ports and the 2.6 has evenly spaced intake and exhaust ports.

Look at the front of the engine, just in front of the valve cover. If there is a plastic cover its covering a timing belt 2.0. . No cover, chain driven 2.6.

Look on the door plate. Look at the plate on the firewall. Look on the front right side of the block next to the head. There is somthing that will tell you. Also look in the Wiki and compare.

the owner could have swapped in a 2.4l and put the 2.0l manifold and carb on it. if its a 2.0l or 2.4l their will be on the alternator side a flat surface with either 4g63 or 4g64 stamped on it on the side of the block.
