This is a Pennyman question. I don't think they did.
But just in case here is the Unicorn

I think they did. I might have to include a d50 into this as well.

Yep looks like they did come as an auto option. How many are around? No idea.

No, but it'll be the same as other model Mitsubishi transmissions no doubt. After a quick look at parts dealer sites I've seen them for both 4 and V6 optioned Pajero and Tritons which are the same as Monteros etc. The really tough ones to find are the 2WD V6 manual gearboxes - the prices are silly for them (like a grand in AU$)

I ask because I wonder how strong it will be at holding power from a 3.8L V6 that will also be turbocharged.

They did for sure. I've owned 1 (no longer do) and have seen 2 others in my life (1 in a MM, 1 in a D50, and the one I owned was a D50).
All 3 were Column Shift Overdrive Automatic 4x4's... The 4-Speed Overdrive used in the MM/D50 was a Chrysler Torqueflite A500 (1st Gens : 79-86 had a 3-Speed Chrysler Torqueflite 904...or "MA904")

Actually there were 2 different automatics for the 2nd gen MMM / Ram50 trucks 2 or 4wd - AW372 (Aisin - Warner, same as the tranny behind a Nissan 300zx turbo or starquest) or the Dodge A500. The 1st gen autos were a "Baby 904" built by Aisin-Warner under license from Mopar. Autos in 2nd gens were available for all years.

I did not know they used 2 Autos in the 2nd Gens, Pennyman. Thanks for that info!
I've only ever seen the A500 versions. But, then again, Auto Overdrive 2nd Gens are pretty much unobtanium and I've only seen a few in my life (and owned 1), so it's no surprise that I haven't seen the AW372 models

Thanks penny. I didn't know the aw372 came in our trucks. Oddly enough I have a tired 96 TT (last year) unit I've been neglecting to get rid of.
Is there a way of knowing what trans it is without being there to inspect myself? There is truckI found a ways away that has toasted its auto.

Yeah i sourced one the same day we bought it the truck, we got a J-Spec OEM Aisin 03-72L from a first gen Montero with the lock up torque-converter for it. Will be ditching the weak sauce Chrysler A500 "mini" torque flight and installing this one in the truck. it also has the 6 bolt transfer case configuration so it opens up the transfer case options in the future to many domestic ones as long as they are 23 spline.

Not sure I see the upgrade. Your a500 should be quite stout with a few mods. Even has the coveted overdrive. I would definitely keep it around. Can't believe you took it all the way back to south Dakota. That is a long drive.

The A500 is toast. The new Aisin 03-72L has overdrive and is a very low mile unit. I also got it for a steel and it came with lots of other parts for the 3.0 V6.
And the truck is currently in Southern California at my brothers place while we do the trans swap and all maintenance, The trip to South Dakota from California is nothing tho, I once took a flight out to New Hampshire, Connecticut to buy a 1999 3000GT sight unseen and drove it back to South Dakota. Took the GF with me and made a road trip out of the buy. Got love the Mitsubishi obsessions.

Hold onto it or send it my way if you don't want it. Lol.
I hear you about the dedication. Did you get the vr4? I drove to Sac last fall for my 90 MM v6 and prior drove to Idaho for my 96 Stealth TT. Its a deep Mitsu sickness. Btw are you on the 3s forums?
