View Full Version : What's this part called bolted on to head?

There's a round part that's bolted on to the head, 3 lines in, one of them at least seemed to be fuel. No idea what the part is called, please help?

And if I take it off, does it have to go back on a certain way? Because there's a spring attached to it somehow where it pokes through a hole in the head.

Seriously dumb question probably but I swear I looked in the book all over the pages & couldn't figure out what it is. Thanks in advance!!! It's the little part with the tape on it.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Doesn't look like a pump to me, but okee dokes! So happy to know what the heck it is, thanks a lot!!! Jeez now I can go learn about it :) and find out if I can safely take it off & put it back on without messing it up :)

Just watch out there is a rod in there that is moved by the camshaft that will fall out when you take the pump off

the fuel pump push rod is run by the camshaft on the G63B engine...the G54B has a lever (can be seen in your pic)...tink...you have no rod:shrug:.

Whoops didn't notice he had a g54b and also didn't know it was different than the g63b. Learn something new every day.

I saw the lever, but no rod, yeah, I didn't pull it out all the way at first since I didn't know what would happen if I did!

It's finally warm enough to go out and take that off & finish cleaning up the surfaces searching for cracks. Just looked up new fuel pumps, just in case, again so cheap to replace if I mess it up, yay!

I'm wondering if it's almost time for me to start an UNbuild thread because I keep getting deeper.

Lol! Psst, I don't even notice that he/she stuff anymore. ;) but thanks. I did wear pink pants today though but I supposed those can be he/she too these days.

Got the fuel pump off & cleaned up. Went to the parts store & got 2 new gaskets... but no new insulator thing in the middle of the gaskets. Guy behind the parts counter said ok to reuse the middle part (insulator?). Hmm. Will see about that. May order from rockauto, think I saw it available there earlier, hate to test the theory where fuel runs through.

the spacer can be reused...just verify condition for any potential cracks...oil runs thru this part, fuel does not. FYI - i have a factory original equipment manufacturer spacer available $10.00 shipped.

The fuel pump is easier to remove and install when the motor is at TDC on cylinder 1 compression stroke. The cam that drives the pump is at it's lowest lift and is putting less pressure on the pump lever.

Okay so I'll clean up that spacer & make darn sure it's good to go or let you know thank you! And yes, the engine is at TDC when I took off the head, and left the top of the camshaft assembly top half (lifters & such) assembled so hoping all the lifters and then valves will still be at TDC when I go to reinstall everything. Hm, I think I'll attach that fuel pump back on after the head goes back on, just so I can see as much as possible while trying to get the head gasket just right. Will try to leave it all at TDC until it's all back together and before I cut those zip ties off the timing chain. Thanks for the TDC reminder!
