Bought a cool little rust free 79 dodge d50 sport for my son, never heard it running, found out why the engine is toast, in any case I would like to put a new motor in the truck, maybe a v6 or a v8, what is an easy engine swap for these trucks? Mine is an automatic. Some people say I can just get another engine from a K-car and install it. I know nothing about these trucks.

Your truck has a 2.6 l narrow block mitsubishi motor in it. A k-car / caravan 2.6 is a mitsu motor, but made for fwd and will not easily fit into the truck. The narrow block motors can be found in 2.0 and 2.6 l sizes in the dodge d-50 / ram 50 from 79-86 with automatics - 87 up have a wide bolt pattern on the back of the block and are not interchangeable like american motors from manual to auto. Very clean and rare - could be fixed up without too much trouble. If you can find a rwd dodge colt, 79-82 challenger/Sapporo, Plymouth arrow car or truck with a 2.0 or 2.6 auto, they would work also. Wow, where has that been stashed for 36 years. Another purdy truck rises from the depths.

hey, don't want to cause problems. we need more research on narrow/wide block information.
g52b,g54b are all wide block? g63b are narrow? yes no?
