Ok, so I got my hands on a cheap 6g72 out of a 3000gt. :) I have a MM with the 2.4l. I was wondering if the v6 will bolt up to my transmission or not?

I am not sure what your 4G64 is, if it's a twin cam or SOHC, Automatic or stick... as also with the 6g72, this information should be supplied with your request post to get your answer more accurate. I looked at both these engines on our Wiki section and here they are. By just looking I would say no way. The bell house on both engines are quite different from each other. But, don't take my word for it, in here anything is possible and there probably is some way to make it fit. :)

I have a manual. I am not sure what the car was that the 6g72 came out of.

So I guess now my question is, what transmission will bolt to the 6g72 for a rwd application? I don't mind a little fab work, just don't want to modify the driveshaft if possible. Haha.

My 4g64 is a sohc 8v engine. :)

well the 6G72 came in the MM but as I remember only the 4WD versions start looking there..and you have a wideblock 4G64.

4gXX does not bolt to any 6gXX.

Your only option for a RWD/2wd 6gXX engine swap is sourcing a RWD 6gXX trans from a Montero Sport. Good luck with that.

Option B is to adapt it with a machined adapter or something of that nature.

Did the montero sport v6 come in a 2wd manual? If so I'll just source a new one online rather than rebuilding a used one.

I've never seen one, but have seen it listed throughout my vendors. If you find one, let me know. I'd really like to source one for another build.

only rwd montero sports I have seen are auto tranny ones - the 5 spd manuals on v6 motors were on 4wd here in the states. No trucks in the US ever had a 5 spd behind a v6 in rwd, only 4wd.

I've never seen one, but I can buy parts for one lol. Most of my vendors list a 2wd V6 option. I can even get the part number for all kinds of stuff which is why I suggest it exists somewhere.

The 4WD trans itself would be the same as the 2wd trans with the exception if the tail. That would be the part you would have to source. You could probably use a combination of auto and manual parts to make it work too. There has to be some way to get one together easily.

I have seen a few JDM 5 spds for V6 2wds on ebay, so I agree they exist, just never seen one in a US spec truck. A tail section off a km145 may work, but I don't know for sure. If you figure it out, we want to know, as there will be a lot of people that will want to do the twin turbo 6g72 in a 2wd truck.
