Weather strip

Is the weather strip that goes between the bottom of the windshield and the plastic wiper cowl available anywhere? I have about 1ft of it left on the driver side and its rock hard and bent in kind of an s shape. I looked on rock auto but had no luck

I'm fighting the obsolete weatherstrip demons myself on my BMW. Pretty much every strip and wiper is ripped, cracked or shredded at this point. The driver's door seal alone costs $375 new from BMW. :shock: So I'm trying to improvise with universal strip and the junkyard.

Brad posted that catalog a while ago that had about 15,000 different kinds of weatherstrip and trim fasteners for old cars but I can't find it.

You might snoop around Lowe's or Home Despot to see if shower door seal would be the right size. I'm not sure what that weatherstripping is good for, as water simply runs down into the firewall drain.

But I could be wrong.

If the problem is UNDER the plastic wiper panel I'd recommend a good silicone caulk, but I'm pretty sure I know what you're talking about: it's sort of "u" shaped and fits on the plastic plate.

Ill get a pic tomorrow, I can pull what's left of it all the way out. I think it may just be to guide water into the plastic grill, because it just seems to be a wedge of rubber between the windshield and plastic.

I think that's correct. And it is about the same size/thickness as the 1990's 2.4 air filter gasket.

The rubber that goes on the cowl panels come attached to them you can still get a new right side panel but the left side is discontinued. I have been looking for a fix to this problem before i re-install my panels because i don't want them to scratch my new glass I came across this link while searching for a solution and so far this is looking like the best option to avoid one old and one new plastic http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=136452

Dragginmits I think that might be the fix! Although if one side is available why can't the strip be used for the other side? I think it just sits in there.

Check out Rock Auto in the Universal Parts section, they have a pretty wide choice of various weather strips. Was cruising the site last night for the Bimmer.
