how does one go about adjusting the rocker arms to rid of this ticking noise?

you should have hydraulic lash adjustors, so there is no adjustment. You either remove them, clean the adjustors with kerosene, then prime them with motor oil and put them back in, or replace them.

went away when I turned it over today, very odd. thanks for the help!

they just needed to pump up.
