Hi I just picked up a one owner 1989 ram 50 sport, 2.6L 4wd Manuel and inside is immaculate! Picked it up for a good deal cause it needs the clutch fork repaired.
This truck is nice and needs nothing but a wax and the bumpers redone. Ac is cold, not one crack in the dash and all the maintenance has been done recently with new shocks, diff fluids and all till the clutch started acting up. The clutch fork lever has plenty of movement when depressing the clutch, and where can I pick a fork up?
But I am from Ogden Utah, I am capable of doing everything myself and have all the tools to do so!

For some reason the interior looks brown ish but looks way better in person

Yup, Justin, you found yourself a wonderful treasure. As interior goes, this is about ultimate (and most of us are jealous) and...dang it!...another guy gets one of these trucks with a shell! WHERE was MY luck when I bought my '90!?!?
Congrats and welcome to the forum.

Question?
Can the 4g64 block bolt up to this trans? That would be cool if I did the 63t head on the 4g64 block.
If I keep it.....

Yes both the 4g64 and the g54b are wide blocks. Welcome to you and your truck!

and the spring in the clutch disc came apart and got Jammed in the pp so it wouldn't release. Yes, that's what's left of the pilot bearing too.

Pennyman buys superglue by the 55 gallon drum. :)
I hope your not crawling under that truck with just that floor jack holding the rear of that truck and floor stands in the front. Seems a little scary since I own a floor jack just like that and it doesn't quite work correctly.

BTW - I hate superglue with a passion - people try to fix things with it that it never could possibly work on - that was the joke...

I just lifted it up in the back only to pull the trans out the side.
Not while working on it.
I'm having mixed feeling if I should keep it or sell it....
It's sooo clean! I waxed a little spot and it looked nice!
And when I removed the center console, there was barely a tan line from the carpet under that and the rest!
The only thing is that back bumper!
Should I have it soda blasted and powdered red or black?

Trucks look ok with out a bumpers too, but if you can't locate one for cheap I would do what you suggested. There are bumpers online for around a hundred bucks and might save you the labor time. Put in a search in the forum, some people have doner trucks and you may get lucky that way also. You'll need your donation label before your able to sell anything though. :)

If you're bent on keeping the rear bumper, I'd say hand-sand it and paint it. You'll take it off to do that, and you might like the 'no bumper' look. Just be careful backing up, especially with that (nice!) camper shell still on there. Otherwise, you'll have a decent bumper, and the rest looks like it will detail out pretty nice.
You have a treasure many guys here would kill for, so know you have a really rare find, and embrace it. That is the nicest, most equiped interior I've ever seen on one of these trucks. You will indeed enjoy driving it, and you'll never want to let it go.

The D50 Sport looks to be the equivalent to the MM SPX. Full carpet along with the same standard equipment. (My cruise is on the wiper switch stalk however...*scratches head*) You landed a real find there. PLUS 4WD!!! I'm happy for you...ya done good! Don't sell it if you can help it even for home ownership, you'll regret doing that.

So my wife wants me to keep the truck, she even said it was a sweet find and she's not into cars.
But anyways I put the new clutch kit, input shaft bearing and seal, also rear main seal in and it
Shifts and runs great!
Just need to wax it and change plugs and set ignition timing.

Hey how do I adjust ignition timing?
Do I just hook up a timing light on cyl #1 and check and adjust or is there a wire I have to ground out?
It seams the truck could be alittle faster, I did plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter and fuel treatment.
Fuel filter next?
It kind of runs worse when I floor it!

Never hurts to replace a fuel filter on a newly-acquired vehicle. (I cut the old one open when i removed it: 25 years of rust!)
I can't say for sure if yours' requires the ground wire or not: I simply don't know. That's something you'll have to look up in the manual.
You DO have a manual...don't you?

According to my manual, you want the engine at operating temperature, make sure the idle is correct, and then just use your Lazer Saber to whack off Darth Vader's schwartz.
It doesn't say cap off vacuum, just point the timing light at the marks and adjust as needed, at idle.
Justin90gsx
04-10-2014, 09:07 AM
Ok so I adjusted the timing and it was way advanced!
Now it runs pretty good!
Went and did state and Im and it passed!
Going to balance the front tires, change fuel filter and replace the valve cover gasket and it's good for a while!

The right front caliper was sticking so I replaced it and the brake pads.
Also changed the fuel filter and Pcv valve.
Also there is a 2.4l mm in the j yard and I want to take the block out of it for a swap when this motor goes out.

It was the right (passenegr-side) caliper that began sticking on me, too. It's one of the reasons I parked the truck until calipers could be located.
It's always a good idea to replace both sides of any brake work at the same time. So I hope you replaced both calipers.
Lucky to find a junk yard motor, but you will be putting 200,000 miles on the one you already have, I'm sure. These engines are pretty tough, and some loving care keeps 'em going happy.

Both sides of brakes done.
But I worked on the paint today
Can you notice a difference? :)

Dang, Justin, it looks terrific. Imagine how good it'll look with the bumpers (and maybe grille) painted!
I bet that truck is a joy to drive.

Ya I'm going to redo the bumpers and grill!
Not sure I want to do them black or keep the red?
Also going to paint the shell red or black.
Ya it's fun but a big step Down from my 450hp awd talon lol

I'll give you my opinion, but remember that opinions are like buttoxes: everyone looks at 'em, they just don't admit it.
The shell on a truck always looks better if it is the same color as the truck. Black could work on yours', though.
The bumpers and grille would look better black: the red tends to blur the detail.
On my original grille I used a satin plastic paint. On the bumper (and rims) I used Universal Black Metalic (Dupli-Color) and a few coats of clear coat. I'm happy with the results.
I could subliminally suggest to BradMPH to photo-shop how your truck would look like with black bumpers and grille.

Ok this morning I went to a local pick and pull, and I scored a good looking black grill!
http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n626/justin90gsx/EBA6B987-8454-4BC5-BB1B-21ED1266404B.jpg (http://s1143.photobucket.com/user/justin90gsx/media/EBA6B987-8454-4BC5-BB1B-21ED1266404B.jpg.html)
And a 6 bolt 2.4 wide block that looks like it was just rebuilt 5k miles ago! So I split the head at the p&p and all it had was a blown Hg that was leaking into #1 & 2 cylinders and out the exhaust which was full of coolant!
So perfect block to drop turbo pistons and throw a Dsm head on!

:oldtimer: Back in my day, a "pick n' pull" was called a BAR!!
Great score!! It's a Mitsubishi grille, not a D-50, yes? It looks terrific, and if you paint the trim of the side-lights black, i think you'll like the look a whole lot better.
Big congrats on such wonderful fortune.
p.s.
If you're interested in a grille RAM emblem, P.M. me: I'd be happy to give it to you as an act of faith.

It's been a while since I got on here but the truck is still broke down and needs a motor.
And I don't know where to get one but everyone wants 1500 if there is one, I'll probably sell it as is or fix and sell.
I still do have the 2.4 block that I picked up.
