hello, I have a set of 17 " dakota steel wheels with the same lug pattern and was trying to to figure outhow to mount them up. I understand you can grind the tabs down but what does it mean to turn down the rear axle? Also should I be using acorn buldge lugnuts or ball radius for oem steel wheels?

If I'm understanding this correctly you are talking about the axle hub that is raised. If thats is what you are talking about I don't see any reason you cant use a grinder to bring them down to be flush with the drum. As for the nuts it all depends on wheel holes.

Dakota wheels are 6 x 4.5 - our trucks are 6 x 5.5 - if they fit on the studs, they aren't Dakota wheels. I had a 91 Dakota with the 6 bolt, so I know they don't fit.

pennyman1 right the dakota had a different bolt pattern than our trucks, and the viper uses the the dakota hubs

I choose to grind down the tabs on the front and the ends of the axles for the rear. Now i can fit any 6x5.5 wheel. And i didn't weaken the strength of the wheel.

Yes Absolutely ! Post Some Pix !
I like em ,,, and 7.5 wide too ,,, sounds like a good candidate.
(I don't want to go Too wide, as I want to have my truck fairly low)
Those look Nice !
And let us know How your Test Fitting Goes !
