Hey, I'm planning on putting a single 10 behind the seat of my 89 MM. I have my amp, sub, and sealed truck box, but I'm having trouble mounting it without moving the seat forward about 4-5 inches. I am 6'2 so I need all the legroom I can get. Anybody got pics of a setup that doesn't compromise legroom too much? Or how I could get by without cutting the seat back rod for clearance?

A few ideas I had thought of are to remove the cabin fan and plenum and seeing how much room I have in there. A cheaper more practical idea is to but a smaller sub like an 8 or so bazooka tube. Stand it up or lay it down in the corner of the cab. I do have a kicker 10" in a truck box that doesn't fit in the truck that I'm thinking of trading one of my coworkers for a bazooka tube he isn't using. No luck yet. Sorry, no pictures. Truck don't run right now and filled with engine parts and tools. Among other crap. Lol.

Problem is that even a 8" bass tube is wider than my box. The box I have now goes from like 7.5" bottom depth to 4.5" or so top depth.

You could make a center console that doubles as a speaker box. Have the sub face towards the back of the cab. Guess that only works if u have bucket seats though. A friend of mine had a nissan hardbody and got a custom box made to fit behind the seat with some real low profile subs. Unfortunately i dont remember who made the box or the subs but i know they are out there.

why not put the sub behind the passenger seat . let them loose the leg room

bench seat maybe....

i dont have pics but a friend had a 12'' sub in a box that was super thin and the width of the cab. it was a slotted box, rectangle in shape. i dont think it had any slope to it ...if it did it was very little....he was like 6'2'' also. it hit really really hard man...sounded great..

Okay, problem solved. (I think)

Returned my sub and box and ordered this:

that sub looks sweet
i am running two 6" band-pass boxes
each box has a duel voice coil driver
i pulled these from Land Rovers in the bone yard
i even got the 4 channel amp to run them
these are not heavy hitters but they sound nice and fit well

That is a very nice sub. Be sure to give us a review on it. Like what you think they can compare to and so forth.

Well, good news. The sub arrived and it really is small! According to my measurements it should fit under the passenger side of my bench seat with no leg room loss at all! I have not tried it yet, as the truck is currently at work, tore down, awaiting a carb rebuild.

So you think this box can go under the bench? Wow. Did you get the chance to try this theory out?

Nope not yet. I'm still in the process of rebuilding the carb and getting it to run right before I spend my time (as valuable as it is anymore) adding things to the truck. Daily driver priorities. Sigh

Thats a good lookin box. If it does fit under the seat make sure nobody sits down and pushes the seat springs and foam into the speaker.

It's a down firing box, so worse case, they feel the box in the seat.

Okay, update on the box. It does fit the truck, just not under the seat as I originally had thought. It does however fit very well behind the seat requiring only moving the seat forward one notch.

I work at a high end stereo shop (lotts Auto Stereo) and a few years back we had a guy come in with a 2nd gen. Ended up with 2 10" alpine woofers mounted to a new board on the back wall of the truck. The boxes had to be kept low on the floor of the truck. If you have too big of a sub (depth wise) you will have issues, but as some others have mentioned there are shallow boxes made. One of the best small boxes we end up doing in a lot of trucks are either the JL 8" ported or the 8" Alpine ported box. For how small the boxes are, they sound really good. I just did the Alpine 8" in a Porsche 924 a couple weeks ago and it did very nice in that car. For a small cab truck like ours, you dont need a super big woofer.

Im actually in the process of building a new center console for my 83 and going to have the 8" JL rear fire in the box. I made a down fireing 10" console but I couldnt get it to clear my seat frames, so Im redoing it with the JL 8". Ill keep you guys posted on how it goes.

as for that shallow Pioneer sub. Ive installed a few of those. Did one in a subaru not too long ago. It sounded very nice. Its a good musical sub. So for all you bass head freaks, it wont hit supper hard, but if you are just wanting a good quality sub to fill that low end sound range, its a very good option.

Alpine type-r shallow ... Or if on more of a budget kicker shallow. I'll be throwing a kicker in mine. .. Trying to figure out a better way. ..ill just throw my 2 cvr's on the seat beside me lol

I got me an 8" w2 behind the passenger seat. With the seat all the way back it clears the box with ease. Looking to get a second sub in the future.
