Anybody know if the front hub lock nut removal tool is the same from 1st gen to 2nd gen to 3rd gen montero? It's a factory 990954?

2nd, anybody know what the aftermarket equivalent part #'s are for tool brands we can order at the parts store?

Are there any back yard bubba techniques to avoid the special tool altogether?

Need to yank hubs off a 3rd gen Montero pronto, can get to 1st gen MM/PR50 later.

What's the magic?

$100 bucks! Yikes. How do I fake it?

I've never needed that tool-the nut always spun off without a lot of force. On my Trooper I modified a GM tool to work, and for some reason it needed a fair amount of torque to remove. My MM 4x4 manual says to seat the wheel bearings by tightening to a high torque setting, and then backing it off to where it requires 4 lbs. of force to turn the hub.

A Dana 44 hub tool can be used in a pinch on the Montero/MM/D50, in place of the Mitsubishi tool. No help on the Gen III Montero.
