I was checking a Cam sprocket off an '87 2.0L MM and darn if it don't match the '86 2.0L mm Cam sprocket. It looks like they updated from a metal pressed version to a metal cast version. I lined up the 2 and they seem to match, does anyone know for sure. I would like to use the '87 sprocket since the teeth appear to be a bit less worn.

The '87 cam sprocket is the 4 spoked, the '86 has the holes.

Remember there was 2 belts a square tooth and a round tooth. make sure what one they both use. if they use different belts then your oil pump and crank will be the same as the 86 or you would have to change out all the pulley's to make it work if the 87 uses a different belt.

It's always something with mitsubishi. wideblock, narrow block, square cog, round cog...Maybe it's time for a V6 swap...I'll plan for one when my truck falls off the required smog checking for registrations. Thanks I'll check the teeth out.

After checking timing belts on Rock Auto, these gears seem to be the same for the teeth.
Timing belts for models 1983 to 1989 pickups use the same 122 Teeth, 45.750in Length, 0.750in width 3/8in. Pitch belts. This information was found for the Goodyear Performance Belts #40158
