View Full Version : I need opinions here on some rims before I actually purchase and make this official.

Alright, so after many retarded mechanical questions that you guys have so happily answered for me, I finally have a much funner question at hand today. I am looking at these rims and tires, but they weren't the rims I originally invisioned. I originally wanted to do a 6 or 7 spoke 17"x8" all black rim. The biggest delema I have about this is that once I saw one on the vehicle, it made me think twice about my original plan. Anyway, here are the pics from the shop.

Rim is 17" x 8.5"

So the idea is to paint the silver spokes, yellow. So in the end, they will be black and yellow w/ black lugs.

I really like these tires, but I think I am going to try for a 50 series after talking to a buddy of mine. I think a 40 just might be too little rubber for the side wall.

Yea, don't get the 40s. To small. Look at my pics to see 17s with 40s. Mine came with the tires so I'm running them for a while

I have no problems running 45 series in the front and 40's in the rear. The only thing is you have to be careful with the rears as if you go a different rolling diameter you will make the speedo read wrong. Originally the tires were a 185/75/14 (my truck) so I replaced them with a set of 235/40/17's in the rear and they are .018% larger then stock. Fronts are 215/45/17,they are a little narrower then the rears so at lock the tire doesn't contact the sway bar but have the same rolling diameter. I have a spare that runs the 215 so I can be used both front and rear.

Ok, cool. I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking a 40 series would be too small. The only question on the tires at this point is: the 45 or 50? I do want to stay with the same size all around.

I would go 45. I think 50 is way too much sidewall but that's my opinion.

I would agree. Any opinions or thoughts on painting all the aluminum/chrome to yellow?

Use a self etching primer on all the surfaces you want to paint unless the rims are clear coated, then just scuff and paint.

Easy enough. I wont be painting them for a while just cause I want to paint them at the same time as everything else. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything i should have a heads up about ahead of time.
