V6 sport cluster in a G54B truck

If I put a V6 cluster in my 4 cylinder is there a way to switch the tach from 6cyl mode to 4cyl, does it come from the factory that way, so there is no way to change it. Or does it not matter?

I also want to know. I'd like a tach but refuse to put a hideous tacky one on the dash plus I refuse to drill into the dash for it

It is possible. If the tach board has a potentiometer on it. The one on my isuzu did but I went the other way. I used a v6 cluster on a 4cyl. In any case it should work. youll just have to have two tachs hooked up, one that works like its supposed to and then the v6 cluster, adjust the potentiometer on the v6 clusters tachometer circuit board until it reads the same as the other tach at 1000rpm, 2000, and so on. The potentiometer will look like a small box, with a small phillips screw on it and probably a few tick marks around the screw. If you already have the cluster take a pic of the board and i should be able to pick it out for ya

here you can see i've drilled a small hole in the top of the cluster case so I can adjust it with it almost completely installed in the truck, If you plan on doing it this way, I suggest you remove the board before drilling the hole or you could chip the board and have to solder it back together like I did. :doh:

Remove the lens and the gauge faces

Locate the potentiometer on the tach board and mark your spot on the case to drill the hole (the little blue box with screw.)

The screws that hold the tach in go through the back of the cluster where my three fingers are

Oh wow, that's pretty cool, so I wont really have to worry if I bought the cluster out of a V6. I have had my old sport cluster apart so I could change the odometer reading, and see what all the different lights were for.

But it does all make sence, I am really good with electronics so doing this wouldn't be an issue.

I used to have a cluster in my 2.0 87 MM with the tach and speedo and it came out of a g54b sport 4x4 Ram 50

Where are you guys getting v6 sport clusters? Are they out of 4x4's?

The one I saw was on ebay, and yeah they are out of 4x4's as far as I know they didn't make a V6 2WD.
