Adding non molded carpet.

How would I go about putting non molded house carpet in my truck, I have tried to before but it looked pretty cruddy because of all of the bumps and lumps on the floor. I thought about buying a new molded carpet, but they are a little spendy, and I've got all the house carpet I would want.
