Montero rear end?

I found a montero at the junkyard with leafs and disc brakes. Should I pick this up? I guess I'm wondering how much of a direct bolt in this is. Mostly in reguards to the brakes.

Its out of a montero sport for starters and they are NOTHING like a Montero. I learned that from one to many visits to the wire

Secondly did you catch what motor it has? Its probly a Mitsu 9in maybe a 9.5 w/ air locker and that would be very good

From what I know the stock 1st gen Montero wheel width is 2 or 3inches narrower then the 2nd gen Montero, same with the Trucks. So theres a very good chance its the same width as the trucks.

Worst thing is its probly got a LOW ratio like 4.272 or it could have the 4.90s or 4.636s, if its the 4.90s and 9.5 ring gear, grab the rear R&P and the front axle assembly minus CV's and sell em to me or another guy w/ a montero.

The reason you want the front axle is b/c it eliminates the CAD (Central Axle Disconnect) and means its one less thing to break

Any more questions :handgestures-thumbup:

And the direct swappage thing its hard to say. Worst case scenario youll have to get the end of your propellor shaft cut off and get the right yolk for the axle welded on

Thanks for the info guys, I went back to the yard and did some more checking.

Vehicle is a 98 montero sport and has a the 3.0 v6 (6g72)....I thought there were no leafed monteros past 1994?

I was lucky in that litterally there is a 2nd gen ram50 about 10 feet from this montero at the yard. So I was able to go get some measurements really quick and easy. The only montero differences I see are is that the axle is 2 inches wider.

I don't see why this wont bolt right in, besides fabbing up brake lines and ebrake cables. Im gonna grab it on saturday from the yard and see how it goes.

Thanks
-Dan

All monteros past 91 came w/ coils, montero SPORTS have always been leaf sprung. Tho they didnt come out till 92. Before 92 only the V6 Monteros were coil sprung.

What ratio does it have?

I'm pretty certain the axle is a mitsu 9.5 unaware of the 9 coming w/ discs. but it could be a 9 (Im a lil hazy w/ the sports) the motor is probly a SOHC 6g72 24valve isnt it?

Lemme know how it works out, I'm gonna end up swapping a SR (air locker) rear end into my red truck when I get some money and some trucks running.

I just pulled this out of the suv today at the yard.

The ratio is about 4.6 so I'm guessing its the 4.636

The back of the diff case has a label that says "Hybrid LSD", N57. I'm not even sure what a hybrid LSD is. Both wheels turn in the same direction when one tire is turned.

What do you guys think?

Its just a fancy LSD Kind of more like a Torsen from what I remember. If you decide not to use it depending upon the Ring gear size I might wanna buy it.
