DIY Headers

Re: DIY Headers

Hello..I have been following this thread..I have a question or two about it..I have run into the same problem as I lost the motor I had in my 1987 Mighty Max to lower end failure..so I pulled the G63B out of my beat up 1986 D50..it has a cracked exhaust manifold..I thought it would be a piece of cake to just pick up a header...I read on here that it is not the case... my question is this.. I did a quick internet search and found these:

http://www.streetbeatcustoms.com/Pacese ... 67/559110/

http://www.myhotram.com/Pacesetter/Head ... 67/559110/

looks like it may be the same company..is this the header we need for the split head? the part number for the other Pacesetter Header is 70-1020 and this gentleman here split-port-header-t543s40.html quotes the same part number as split..but his add reads paired..I'm so confused...

Also the motor I pulled from the Mighty Max is a lot bigger block(it's suppose to be a 2.0 as well) than the G63B I pulled from D50.. both trucks are 5 speed 2-wheel drive..it looks like the transmission has two sets of holes to take either..is this correct? or will I need to swap Trans too? the flywheel. clutch and pressure plate are identical..

any help/info would be great..I searched around and thought I would ask directly..I hope I didn't offend anyone..I am new..Thanks

The bad motor I pulled from my Mighty Max is bigger and has aluminum cover...the smaller motor I pulled from D50 has a plastic cover with timing and cam belt under it..it is stamped G63B..not sure what larger motor is stamped..it has a bigger exhaust manifold that is evenly spaced..the smaller motor is unevenly spaced on exhaust manifold...

and thanks for the help...

There is a casting tab on the front left side of the block that will have the engine family id stamped on it, please view attached picture.

You are welcome

I just went out to garage and checked..the number stamped on larger bad motor is G52B..... Will the G63B bolt to the trans the G52B was bolted too? or will I need to change the trans as well? I can see that the block bolts are closer together..but it looks like the trans has extra holes for that?.. Thanks for any help..also you think it would help to post a wanted add in proper section looking for a exhaust manifold for the split head? Thank you

im pretty sure the g63b will bolt to the same trans as the g52b. if im not mistaking they are both narrow block motors. just measure center to center of the bottom bell housing bolts and that will tell you what you need to know.

You are right Russ, a G63b will bolt right up to the early G52b transmission. Tell him from your experience what will need to be done before he does the swap.

I don't think I like the sound of that...

The G52B motor that is in my 87 Mighty Max came out of a 83....so it has had at least one swap before...the G63B that I just pulled from the 86 D50 is the original motor to truck I'm pretty sure..I have a Weber on my G52B and hope to swap it over to the G63B as the carb on it is dumping large amounts for unburned fuel(common I think)..so what else is needed?

Cool..the flywheel on the G63B was junk anyway...had teeth missing..so I really was hopeing the flywheel from the G52B would work..they look exactly the same to me..are they not?

hey , just a thought. could you make an adapter for G63B to G54B header? maybe cheaper/easier than whole header.
terry, do you have pics of your header? please post!!

okay, looks like an adapter would be pretty easy to make. also check out pacesetter 70-1282 header for nissan sentra 91-96.

what about a header for an eclispe and adapt it to point back instead of under the motor? Just a thought...

DSMs are all even spaced vs the paired. As I recall LSRMike saying.
