4d56t into an 83 d50

So my friends diesel d50 has finally given up the ghost. after being run low on oil it has become so hard to start that we went and got an imported 4d56 engine from a 94 mitsu pickup.from what i gather, the trannies are different and the 4d55 wont work with the 4d56's right? its a shame since she just put a brand new transmission in this time last year. around 10,000 miles on it now...anyways, my questions are pretty straight forward with this swap. "new" engine has 78,000 mi but i want to do the front and rear main seals, are they the same as the 4d55? are the blocks on these engines that similar? i notice some of the part #'s listed are for NAPA, so i was hoping i could source my seals and timing belt and perhaps water pump and thermostat there, any OEM #'s for any of that stuff? or more #'s at all? i already read the sticky on part #'s, and i thank you all for your compiling of info. and the clutch, i imagine its different if the trannys are different, any idea if i can source one stateside? one more, the timing belt, are there two? whats the deal with that and are they the same belt #? sorry for the deluge of questions, trying to finish this project inside of a week.

i believe the rear mains and the trans mounts are the same. this should be a very simple swap. oh yea keep that tranny too. it will bolt right back on. also there are 2 belt on the one on the very inside is for the silent shafts and the outer belt is for timing the motor. you should change these about every 40000 mi if not sooner it is good insurance. if the timing belt slips more than 1 tooth it will be a catastrophic failure. what are you doing with the old 4d55? where are you located?

thanks for the help, i am in asheville nc.looking to sell the old motor- it needs to find a home for sure. any reasonable offer will be accepted - that is good news on the transmission, but for the timing belts, are they both the same size then? are there any posts or stickies i could look at for the procedure to change them? thanks!

Swap the front and rear axles while your at it, them diesels are heavy sumbitches and that 94 probly has a 8" front and 9" rear atleast (if its 4x4) and the torsion bars would swap and they probly have a heavier rate set up for that heavy diesel

Whats left of your 94 parts truck?

the 2 belts you have are different. the one named silent shaft belt is the one closes to the motor. the other is a timing belt for the cam to crank and the fuel pump. i believe you can order them from any parts store. but get the good belts it is cheap insurance. as far as stickies on timing procedures no there are not as of yet. you can find a book on ebay i believe for the 4d55 for the rangers or d50s. if there are non on there than you can find let me know an i will talk ya thru it. oh yea dont for get to get new tentioner pulleys as well this is also cheap insurance, you never know how long they have been there.

ok so i have plenty of photos to show, but i am looking for a wiring diagram for the vehicle i am swapping the 4d56 from. it was a 95 mitsu pickup, from england. i am trying to swap the engine wiring harness over to the d50 to use the stock mitsu glow system since the d50s was way shot and cannibalized from previous owner*(s). anyone have one, or can get me a scan of the wiring for this system? i would be so grateful.

4d55 out, engine has 450 450 150 450 compression, any takers?

new timing belts, water pump, n front main seal- done!

new rear main in!
sooo, i need the wiring diagram for the engine, mainly because i am trying to wire in the stock glow system from the donor
because the d50s was way shot to hell and cannibalized. where does the green and white relay wire go? etc...

Looks like fun work, I hope you find the wiring diagram you need. I'm sure if anyone can dig it up it'd be Mike! (maxd50)

The 8 or 9 is just the ring gear size in inches
