first time build: where to start

Alright so when I bought my 84 d50 TD truck the seller gave me 3 big boxes of parts. One of them contains 3 engine blocks mostly stripped down. The other boxes contain injection pumps, turbos, crankshafts, exhaust manifolds, basically almost everything that would bolt on. I am wondering if it would be a good idea to build an engine from one of the blocks. Having never rebuilt an engine what would be a good place to start? Can it be done alone with a book or should I find a diesel mechanic that can show me how to do it? Thanks

Well, first off how far stripped down are they? I know the gas engines the caps have to match the block. Can't swap them out from block to block and so fourth. I guess that's a good way to start. Otherwise you can save yourself the headache and bring all your stuff to a machine shop with your credit card and they can sort it out.
