This could be in the wrong forum but its affecting my performance so im putting it here. When i got in my accident it pushed me radiator support back and the fan cover hit the belts attached to the timing, how do i check to c if my timing is off, cuz my idle sometimes acts up on me

Seems to me that if your timing is off, it wouldn't "sometimes" cause your idle to act up.If the timing is off, it would "always" effect something, as in idle,bottom end or top end power(torque),valve pinging, etc.But if you want to check the timing,hook up a timing light, or take it to a mechanic that can do it for you.Simple check,shouldn't cost you much.

You can "loan a tool" a timing light at autozone/advance/o'reileys. The directions come with it it's a piece of cake... the timing marks are at the 12 o'clock position behind the harmonic balancer... just look for the dot... you'll see what I mean when you hook up the light.

yeah its only when my truck is at a stop or in park when rpm's low basically, cool im doing a valve job because its needed so i'll tell the mechanic to check it out

No worries then cause if your doing a valve job he'll have to retime it. Just buy some new belts and pulley since he's already going to be in there... cheap insurance!

just an FYI, autozone no longer loans out the timing light anymore on the loan a tool program.
atleast around here they dont(also removed from the "list of tools" thingy in the store)
i get hell from them every time i try to get the code reader but its on the list

sweet well the belts are 7 months old so i'll get the pulley, im going tomorrow to see how much it will be. Also the alt swap is from a 1990 mitsubishi van right, cuz i got my girlfriend to buy me 1, ha ha
