Grounding the wire while timing? Help Please

Truck is a 1994 2.4 l I just fixed the timing belt which was off one tooth. Per my manual i am supposed to ground out a wire in order to time it correctly. Unfortunately my manual was not very specific and I believe I grounded out my fuel pump check wire instead. The truck will no longer start but still has spark and i did some research in the manual it looks like i might have grounded the wrong wire! So 2 questions the first being where is the correct wire to ground? The second anyone know what the wire on the passenger side of the truck above the fender goes to? I still have spark so I am thinking something fuel related!

There should be a black connector on the fender. You have to let the truck get to operating temperature before setting timing
