Anyone here have experience with Alternator upgrades?
I was under the impression that my 1986 MM has a 45Amp alternator and wanting to ad MSD and perhaps a small amp may really work the 45 amp alt..
I have at least 30 alternators allover my shop and would like to use them if i could.
anyone?

I'm currently running a sm case gm alt on my 2.6- works great with modded brackets. May swap it out for a 200 amp I got off ebay for 50.00 and put the 105 amp on my project d-50.

..this is cool...so as long as it has a built in regulator like most alternators built after 1975 or so it should be ok?
no issues with a higher amperage?..
by the way...any junk yards in the Pittsburgh area with 1st gen parts?

I ran the GM set up also. All GM stuff is internal I'm aware, of fords and mopars arent from my memory. Only problem I had is that with my 120amp alt. It seemed like it kind of turned down my idle speed a lil but not 100% sure that it actually did

So the 98 amp alternator from the 2000'ish montero uses the same bracket and everything? Even the same pigtaail wiring? Thats cool cuz i swapped in an electric fan and i would like a stronger alternator(than my 45 amp) so i can get a bigger fan put on cuz it pretty much runs non stop in the summer cuz it takes forever for it to cool down. Works very well tho. If anyone wants help with an electric radiator fan let me know. its very simple
