Alright, it dosnt full on idle, but it seems like right after you turn of the key it fires off once or twice spinning the engine for a good 5 seconds sometimes, the longest ive had it go is like 8. the way i usually get it to stop is to put it into gear and pop the clutch. my question is, has anyone had this happen before, and if so, is it an easy fix?
ill try to get a video up if possible.

Hi. What you are experiencing I think would be called dieseling. This happens with excessive carbon buildup in the head/block and that carbon buildup is igniting and sucking up fuel from your carb. You can run seafoam in your gas tank or slowly suck some in your carb via vac line while the engine is running. Some others have had success with other methods but I am not sure what they were at the top of my head. I'm sorry I couldn't be more help.

My Hayne's manual lists 10 possibilities:
1. idle speed too high
2. ignition timing incorrect (too far advanced)
3. incorrect spark plug heat range
4. intake air leak
5. carbon build up in combustion chambers
6. valves sticking
7. valve clearances incorrect
8. EGR system not operating properly
9. fuel shut off system not operating properly (fuel injection only)
10. engine overheating

If the head is badly carboned up Sea Foam won't solve it-have to pull it. Start with the easiest things first-timing, replace old vacuum hoses, loose carb or intake bolts, adjust idle, use the stock spark plugs gapped correctly, Sea Foam in 3 places-gas tank, brake booster hose and oil 15 minutes before an oil change, check for vacuum leaks with a can of carb cleaner and hose attachment.

Is this a new or old problem? How many miles? Does the engine ping under load?
