Like my username says, i've just became the proud owner of an ultra rare 1984 Mitsubishi mighty max spx 4wd turbo diesel. I've been wanting one of these forever and I just took a huge risk buying one in Las Vegas and then driving back to Flagstaff Az. where I live. The drive took about 6 hours because I had to go around the hoover dam to avoid the border check. it made it all the way but only gave me 17.5mpg. ouch. These things are supposed to return about 29 mpg. I was going as fast as I dared which was about 75mph. That could have something to do with it. but I think the reason for the poor mileage is the bad exhaust manifold leak the truck has. Another piece of evidence is that the truck was slow to take off. but felt pretty peppy once you hit about 2500 rpms. I could hear the turbo spooling up and down normally. another clue is that there's an oil leak dripping from the turbo somewhere. but the oil level absolutely didn't move at all the whole trip. Do any of you knowledgeable people have an idea on where to start? also another clue is that the temp gauge stayed very very cold the whole time (thermostat?)
sorry if this post isn't laid out very well but I hope you get the idea. anyways, I'm completely happy with the truck. it's only got 114k on it. and only has rust on the bottoms of the two front fenders. btw, does anyone have two front fenders they would be willing to sell/ship to me?
