well to put it simply my family is a pack of morons,

my brother had been driving this thing around on a blown head gasket and i got it off his hands when he got tired of the lack of power
(witch was actualy caused by the brakes sticking)

anyway i wanted to know what u guys thought about the head on this 4d55, its a little pitted but should i just slap it back on when i get some bolts and hope for the best?

Have a Machine Shop check it for Warpage & Cracks if your brother was driving it around with a bad head gasket. If it's not warped or cracked, the machinist can advise you where to go from that point

x2 the gaskets are not cheap for these motors by the time you pull it again you could have had it checked by a reputable shop. and then you know for sure!!!!

Check the Haynes manual for the torque specs... But the price of the pressure check and to have the head 'decked' usually runs about $75 (at a good shop).

there is a specific 2 step torque process to that head and there is a specific pattern to remove it and a different one to reinstall it,,,,,,,,,,,,buy a manual......you will thank yourself!!!!!!

Be careful not to have them remove too much if you have the head decked. Especially if it has been done before. I hear there is only so much you can remove before you risk the valves meeting the pistons.

Wish I could tell you the minimum deck height/head thickness specs, but I won't have access to my manual for a few months.

It's interesting - it looks like the openings to your pre-combustion chambers are larger than on mine. What year is this motor?
