New timing belt

Hello,

I Need to replace my timing belt and the silent shaft belt. Besides lining up all three timing marks on the pulley is there anything else I should know before removing the belts? Any tricks to putting the belt back on? Oh yeah and what about the tension? Also can anyone recommend a good repair manual for these diesels. Thanks for the help.

just make sure you do both belts while your there and get the pulleys wit them too. it is a pain in the butt to do but it can be done. but while the balancer is off your crank,,,,check it for cracks and wobble on the key-way. oh almost forgot. to set tension, rotate opposite direction to allow the spring on the tension er to fully extend and tighten it down you r done...

Be prepared to hold injector pump sprocket. It will rotate away from pointer. If you have never done this your first time will be a struggle. I start from bottom sprocket and than IP pump and than while pulling tension up slip it onto tensioner. Lastly I put it on the cam sprocket with remaining tension.

good advice, I replaced both belts on mine, didn't check the silent shaft sprockets, ended up being sloppy enough to back the bolt off and ended up falling into the lower shaft, causing it to instantly stop and break the new belt. I thought the shaft had seized but when I took it apart, I saw what happened.

Alright, thanks again. I will take a look at the sprockets/pulley too.
