Anyone know what the brass looking nut on the back of the AC compressor is used for? This is off a 2.4L. I heard a "hiss" noise and it seemed to be coming from the back of the ac compressor off this brass thing.

from the pict I cant tell if it is a srheader valve. Does it have a little thing in the end that looks like a tire valve setem, and a threaded part on the out side?? Kind of like the one on the hose with the red cap. If so then it is for filling the system.

i see his high and low pressure connectors. so its not that. it ma be an oil level????? or a port where the hook up when charging for non condecables......??????like a puurge valve. but either way im unsure. is it an o ring sealed cap?

I'm not sure if it's a valve or not. It's not the high and low ports. The manual has no info for this. It's hard to get a good look at it without taking it out. I'm not sure if I should remove it yet? I haven't even turned the AC back on yet. I tried to google some pics with no luck.

Take a close up macro pict of it. If it's leaking then there must be a seal. Copper or rubber. What is the information say on the plate on the side of it. There is literly 1000s of compressor types.
If you can find out what type it is and maker then we have a starting point.

I'm using the original 2.4L ac compressor bolted to my 2.6T conversion with some simple custom brackets. The 2.6 ac compressor would be a pain to install, since I would need to change the hoses also.

I'm not sure yet if its dead yet. I've only takenk the truck out once since I heard the hissing and didn't need to use the AC since the weather finally started cooling a bit. It was working before I shut off the truck, as I was exiting the truck I heard a faint hissing like a small leak (freon?). I couldn't see the leak, but it sounded like if was coming from the back of the ac compressor. I checked the service manual again and I'm guessing it could be a temp switch. I'm just not having any luck searching for a pic on the web. I'll try using a mirror to get a better look next time I open the hood.

Pull the electrical plug off the clutch. So you don't destroy the comp if turned on accidently. It is most likley for filling the system. Eather high or low side.

I updated the pic showing the low and hi ports.

Did some more research and it looks like it maybe a high pressure relief valve, but the service manual doesn't show one and online oem catalog doesn't show one either.
