for my isuzu i just cut off everything from the beginning of the cat back, and put 2.5 piping with a magnaflow muffler. I have a sound clip somewhere ill find. I wont lie and tell you its not that loud because it is loud. But it has a good tone and sound from it. MUCH better than a flowmaster.

If you have emissions testing you'll fail if you cut off the cat. You could go with an ebay highflow cat though.

I gutted the cat and put a Summit welded muffler on in front of the axle with a turn down tip. I took off the piping running over the axle for now, but am going to put it back. The noise seems to bounce around under the bed at cruising speed and is a little annoying. For the most part I'm pretty happy with the sound, since it isn't over powering. It has a nice rumble to it, nothing like the civics you hear zipping around.

My stock muffler was shot and no one had anything around me for less than $80. The Summit muffler was $37.

Emissions in NY for mine (1988) is visual only. Yours being newer probably has to meet more. Check out your state's DMV site to be sure, trust no one else including me.

The 2.4 is also EFI correct? I'm not sure what is involved with making the computer adjust to the added flow, but it's another aspect to check on before buying anything.
